ABOUT THE AUTHOR
“I used to be terrible with money. Now I just write about it on the internet.”
A few years ago I had $23,000 in credit card debt, a fridge full of condiments, and absolutely zero idea what a Roth IRA was. Today, I’m debt-free, investing every month, and wearing metaphorical pants made of financial knowledge. Welcome to FinancePants.

Hi, I’m Bob — just a regular person who spent most of my twenties thinking “personal finance” was something only people in khakis cared about. Spoiler: it’s not. It’s for everyone, including people like me who once celebrated paying the minimum balance on a credit card like it was a personal achievement.
At my worst, I had $23,000 spread across three credit cards, a car payment I definitely couldn’t afford, and a vague plan to “figure it out later.” Later arrived faster than expected — in the form of a rent increase, a surprise car repair, and a very uncomfortable conversation with myself at 2am staring at a bank statement.
That was my rock bottom. Embarrassing? Yes. Necessary? Also yes.
I started reading everything I could about personal finance — blogs, books, Reddit rabbit holes at midnight. Slowly, things started clicking. I discovered the debt avalanche method, opened my first index fund, and learned what compound interest actually means (hint: it’s magic, but it works both for and against you).
Three years later, I paid off every single dollar. Not because I had a high salary or rich parents — but because I learned the rules of the game and started playing it on purpose instead of by accident.
And that’s exactly why FinancePants exists.
Because finance content is way too boring and intimidating for most people. There are a million websites written by people who sound like they’ve never had an overdraft fee in their life. FinancePants is not that.
This is a place for people who are figuring it out — who want real, practical advice without the jargon, the judgment, or the smugness. I write the stuff I wish someone had explained to me back when I thought a 401(k) was some kind of government form.
🚫 No jargon without explanation. If I use a fancy finance word, I’ll tell you what it actually means in human.
✅ Only recommend stuff I’d actually use. Affiliate links help keep this site free — but I’ll never push a product just for a commission.
😅 Honesty over perfection. I’ve made bad money decisions. I’ll tell you about them. Learning from mistakes beats pretending they didn’t happen.
🎯 Action over overwhelm. Every post ends with something you can actually do today — not a 47-step plan that requires a spreadsheet degree.
👖 Always wear pants. Financially speaking.
